    The Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) is accepting applications for a Technical Assistant -Acquisitions position. The Technical Assistant locates, sources, orders, receives and invoices library materials. Requires a High School Diploma and three or more years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.     POSITION:  Technical Assistant III - Acquisitions

    DEPARTMENT:  Collection Support

    POSTING DATES:  Tuesday, 04/08/14 to Wednesday, 04/30/14

    COMPENSATION:  $2,444 per month with excellent benefits including Social Security, retirement, medical, dental and optical insurance; paid vacation and sick leave, EAP, and a fun and innovative work environment that values the contributions of our employees.

    UNION:  Membership in AFSCME, AFL-CIO Local 1581 required commencing not more than 30 days after employment, according to the terms and conditions described in the current bargaining agreement.

    SCHEDULE:  40 regular scheduled weekly hours during regular business hours.  Successful candidates may be required to adapt to future schedule changes depending on library needs.

    LOCATION:  Whatcom County Library System, 5205 Northwest Drive, Bellingham, WA.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:  Locates, sources, orders, receives and invoices library materials.  Essential functions include:

    • Order materials:  Order library materials including books, continuations, compact discs, DVD’s and other media; add copies to meet demand for materials; create purchase orders, with order records, in Library database.
    • Sourcing: Locate sources and/or select the most appropriate vendors.
    • Receive materials: Verify accuracy, update Library database from invoices; make claims for damaged or undelivered items; return items as necessary; and ensure materials are properly marked for processing.
    • Invoicing:  Process invoices electronically; create original invoices; balance all invoices before submitting for payment.
    • Records:  Maintain Library’s acquisitions database; record transactions for returns, credits, cancellations; ensure database is updated and accurate.

    QUALIFICATIONS:  You are extremely attentive to detail and have excellent keyboarding skills and computer experience, including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet, e-mailing systems and other relevant software packages.  You value providing exceptional customer service, to both internal and external patrons.  High School Diploma and three years or more related experience required; or equivalent technical training, education and/or experience.   Ability to gain working knowledge of Whatcom County Library System’s policies and procedures.  Requires the ability to speak, understand, and write English clearly and concisely.  New employees are subject to a CRC (criminal records check) per RCW 43.43.832.
