Six Grants Awarded by WCL Foundation Print

Foundation logoThe Whatcom County Library Foundation Board recently awarded the following grants at its February 13, 2013 director’s meeting:

  • $1,000 - to the Friends of Island Library to purchase building permits for the Island Library renovation project.
  • $800 - to the Children’s Services Department to pay for busses to transport Nooksack and Ferndale first graders to their library to get their first library card and learn about library resources.
  • $500 - to the Teen Services Department to purchase prizes for the teen summer reading program.
  • $300 - to Friends of Ferndale Library to underwrite expenses associated with community building events.
  • $225 - to Deming Library to pay for expenses associated with A Forest of Words poetry contest and workshop.

Joan AiroldiIn addition to the budgeted grants listed above, the Foundation made its first “Airoldi Innovation Grant,” in the amount of $1,000, to Lynden Library, to purchase Kobo mini eReaders as part of a research project that will track summer achievements using eReaders versus printed books.  Meridian Middle School is partnering with this project.
