Jacket covers from Recent studies have shown that one in every five American households listen to audiobooks.  And if you were to question those listeners, my bet is that they would unanimously tell you that it is the reader who makes the book come alive.  A fabulous book can be ruined by a narrator whose voice is like fingers on a chalkboard (as one listener recently described an audio experience to me).  So how to find the wonderful narrators?  One way is to check the annual Audie Awards which recognize excellence in solo narration by male and female readers, as well as honoring authors reading their own works.  This year's honors in the above categories go to narrators Simon Vance (for The King's Speech), Rosalyn Landor (for The Winter Sea), and Libba Bray (reading her teen book Beauty Queens).  Once you find a narrator you really enjoy, an author search with their name will find their other works in the catalog.  Happy Listening!  (Note: The Winter Sea is only available through Audible.com, a subscription audio service - not available for library purchase at this time.)
